5 minutes with Dave Pietropaolo

An avid hockey player and passionate sales leader, meet our Head of Sales in North America, Dave Pietropaolo.

Dave always felt destined for a life in sales since sophomore year in college; “I knew I was headed for sales and 30 years later I’ve made a career out of it. I’ve been fortunate to be with 3 great companies over this time each with great people, products and customers. And, I’ve had many roles and responsibilities over the years including direct sales, channel sales, sales leadership, global sales, sales operations and global alliances.

A day in the life of Head of Sales

Working with Panviva for close to six years now, Dave has “responsibility for three main areas; the Business Development team who reaches out to identify and qualify interest from prospective customers, Sales Directors who help Panviva acquire new customers and Customer Success who supports the retention and growth of our existing customers by ensuring they are getting the most value possible for our products.

Rarely days are the same - especially in sales, but the one consistent element is customer relationship management. "I am very fortunate to be able to spend the vast majority of every day working directly with our customers, prospective customers, partners and our teams to foster the use, growth and success of Panviva customers in the world."

I engage with virtually every Panviva department to support our customers but if I was to switch with someone, I think product management would be ideal because they are the conduit between customers, the product and all parts of the company today and into the future.

When asked to describe life at Panviva in three words, Dave apologised because he picked four (we can forgive him for that!) - “Passion for customer success”.

Learning, developing and creativity has been a driving factor for Dave’s enjoyment while working - “Panviva has been a great place for me to leverage my years of experience but also be creative, innovate and try new things.

Other things you may not have known about Dave

I’m a history buff and love reading and watching non-fiction specific to various historic eras such as Greek, Roman and 17th to 20th century US and European time periods.

A lot of colleagues probably don’t know that Dave worked in relation to 9/11, “I worked closely with the then US Customs Service (soon after Homeland Security) to sell and integrate my prior company’s software into numerous mission critical applications including Immigration and Customs, Border Patrol, OFAC and other US security and protection use cases.

What’s something you’ve done, but will never do again?

If you were to choose a superpower what would it be and why?
Able to Fly, how cool would that be.

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
Human Genome Science and the Piano as a close second.
