Satellite Server

Although SupportPoint is designed to operate well across even low-bandwidth networks, SupportPoint Satellite Servers support remote sites that have intermittent or extremely slow connectivity to the central SupportPoint server.

Satellite Servers are subsidiary servers that regularly synchronize data with the primary Application Server. They allow users at remote sites to connect to a local server rather than to a server that is far away or at the other end of a slow connection. Satellite Servers can also be used to reduce peak network load by utilizing overnight bandwidth to synchronize data and have users connect locally during the day.

A SupportPoint deployment can include a number of Satellite Servers that receive data directly from the central server. Synchronization can be scheduled to occur at any time interval (hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly). All configuration, users, roles, and content are synchronized from the central server to a Satellite Server, and content access statistics are replicated back from the satellite server to the central server for reporting purposes.
